My experiences: My I.C.T experience is very limited. I have used the interactive whiteboard a few times, but would like to use it to it's fullest capabilities.

What i want to learn: To use the interactive whiteboard more in class, and in lessons. Also to see what other progams are out there for the students to use on laptops/desk tops and use during class time.

Topic of Unit- Our local community
Unit Summary- Students will look further into what community services are available and how they are utilised. Students will also look at the geography of our local area, with specific link to mapping.
Unit Questions- What people and services are aailable to be utilised within our local community?

The real world connections that I am considering are:
  • Having the students be aware of, and visit their local community organizations and the role they play in our lives everyday.
  • Also having students becoming more aware of the local services that are avilable to the community and why they are needed.

The role of the students are to having more understanding and knowledge of what is available to them in their local community, and making connections of when, and why they would utilise these services.

The project scenario that I am considering is having the students show their new found knowledge and understanding, through doing a research project on a particular local service or community group and what they have learnt about them.

Sharing my results

I tried out a main ideafor my unit. I will keep this tool within my unit plan but i may change some specific elements of it, such as the description and the prompt needs to be more specific. The visual ranking tool that I used for my unit only related minimally to the unit objectives, and not to the overall gain of the essential question. I need to delve deeper into my thinking to create a visual ranking that is meaningful to the outcomes of my unit. Within the Level 3 area, I believe that the use of the visual ranking tool with be greatly successful, as long as steps, precautionary measures and rules are set up amongst students when justifying their responses and also working successfully within a team. I have no further questions regarding this specific tool, I feel I just need some more practical 'hands-on' time to work with the tool before the students successfully utilising it.
